Education

Overview

Demand for AI-related talent in computer science, engineering, agriculture, manufacturing, business, entertainment, and other industries continues to increase rapidly. In addition, the growth of wireless edge networks will require a large workforce with expertise in wireless networking, security, and privacy. Therefore, it is critical to educate, diversify, and increase the pool of of students, professionals, and practitioners in AI and networks. The AI-EDGE institute will develop efficient and novel ways to educate undergraduate and graduate students, practitioners, and professionals, and to expand education and opportunities to under-represented communities.

Planned Education Initiatives

  • Develop modular open-source educational material based on input from academic partners
  • Create datasets related to problems associated with networks and systems
  • Create a repository of bridge projects with training across AI and network domains
  • Develop web-based tools to assemble modular training blocks and projects into a personalized curriculum for each student and professional practitioner
  • Launch a weekly online seminar series that will feature talks from students, faculty, and postdoctoral researchers of the Institute, as well as other prominent researchers in networking and AI
  • AI-EDGE faculty engagement of high school students in research of the Institute
  • AI and ML demonstrations to support educational outreach activities to middle school students
  • Institute faculty and staff engagement of high school students in hackathon and maker events
  • Explore opportunities to partner with educational science researchers to help them develop the next-generation of scalable AI-assisted education systems
  • Develop content and curricula at scale that focuses on the joint education in AI and Networks
  • Develop open-source, modular educational material, as well as datasets related to research networks and systems. Provide certificates for online training in AI and networks from Institute universities
  • Create a collaborative development and delivery strategy of new and innovative educational material, serving multiple institutions simultaneously
  • Student participation in internships with industry partners to increase collaboration between the Institute and industry
